Patrick Stewart in the Library

It’s not every day that you get a former Captain of the starship Enterprise in your Library, but today was one of those days! Patrick Stewart is the current Chancellor of the University of Huddersfield, and was born just down the road in Mirfield.
The refurbished library opened it’s doors to students in September (see photos), but today was the official opening ceremony of the Student Centre (which is the entrance floor of the library). To celebrate the event, we had a string quartet playing in the foyer, and Patrick Stewart gave a speech and unveiled a plaque.

No sooner had Patrick walked in, he headed straight for the Info Desk…

…and he personally thanked the library staff for their hard work over summer…

I’d thoroughly recommend getting a string quartet to play in your library entrance — it definitely sets a nice ambience 🙂

  1. Hi Dave
I was at your presentation on Friday; it was truly inspiring, many thanks; I’m going to spend some of my weekend coming setting up an RSS feed aggregator and getting going on my blog. As an MA student this is of course yet more work avoidance!
I must say I am incredibly envious of you managing to get Captain Picard in your library, you’ve set the bar rather high for the rest of us now. I’m not normally a celeb spotter, but I did see Mr Stewart on York station platform a few weeks ago and immediately had to text everyone I know. There are often famous faces knocking about the place there, and having spent the last three years at the National Railway Museum you get used to press calls and the like, but this was the most exciting brush with celebrity I have ever had.
Kudos to you and your library, nice one!

  2. Wow, Davey, I am soooooo impressed! He gussies up really nice in regalia! The library (and the string quartet) look pretty impressive too!
